Our Art Exchange goes International

Our Grade 6 Junior Art competition has been run successfully for the last 3 years.

For 2010 it is intended to extend it to include a primary school in South Africa.

Primary schools in our area have been invited each year to submit artworks (paintings, small sculptures etc) on the Rotary International theme of the year. For the 2008-09 year the theme was 'Make Dreams Real'. For the current year the theme is 'The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands'

The Ekuthuleni School in Durban will participate with the local Melbourne schools this year.

This school was recommended by PDG Gerald Sieberhagen, a connection to our club through the International Fellowship of Cricketing Rotarians.

The South African school will send us 6 artworks which will be included in our June display. After that display is over the South African artworks will be shown at each of our local schools for a short period.

The next step will be for the best 6 artworks from local Australian schools to be sent to Durban for display at the Ekuthuleni School.

It is intended that this exchange be an annual event. We hope that the participating schools at each end will be interested to find out more about their opposite number school.
